The Trump Administration on Tuesday issued two new memos from the Department of Homeland Security, outlining the basic guidelines for stepped-up enforcement of U.S. immigration laws, ending the policy known as “catch and release” and pledging to hire hundreds of new border and immigration agents.
The plans detail a decision to detain people found to be in the U.S. illegally, and to keep them in detained, “pending final determination” of their immigration status – instead of releasing people, and telling them when to show up before an immigration judge at a future date.
“Such policies, collectively referred to as “catch-and-release” shall end,”
