Police: Son Charged In Dad's Death

DULUTH, Ga. — A man accused of trying to kill his parents in the heat of an argument has been arrested.

Duluth police said an argument between Fredrick Rogers and his parents escalated to violence Saturday afternoon.

Investigators said Rogers pulled a gun on his parents, grazing his mother with a bullet and seriously wounding his father. Paramedics rushed the two to Gwinnett Medical Center, where the father later died.

The shooting occurred during the noon hour Saturday inside a home in the 3300 block of Ennfield Lane near Ennfield Way in Duluth.

Family members and neighbors told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tony Thomas that they were unaware of any longstanding problems in the family.

"We never had any problems," said Carlos Harris, a relative.

"I'm just so sad that this happened because he was a friend to everybody," neighbor Debbie McHugh said.

Rogers was being held in the Gwinnett County jail without bond. He's charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Police told Channel 2 Action News reporter Rebecca Lindstrom that the mother is out of the hospital and doing all right.
