Police-involved wreck sends several people to hospital

ATLANTA — Several people were hospitalized over the weekend, including a police officer, after a southwest Atlanta crash.

Fulton County police say an Atlanta Police Department cruiser was responding to a call for assistance when it collided with a BMW at the intersection of Cascade Road and Fairburn Road on Saturday, just before 5 p.m.

The crash was so powerful that  the patrol car caught fire, with officer Joshua Sieck still inside. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

“The BMW hit my car and then police care hit my car,” Kenyatta White told Channel 2's Michael Buczyner.

The impact of the crash sent cars flying into White’s car with her two children inside. Both children escaped unharmed.

“I’m blessed. I’m just thankful that we’re OK,” White said.

Still shaken, she described the traumatic wreck, just moments after she was released from the hospital.

“I saw the lights across the street and I looked over and the next thing I knew, there was the accident,” White said. “I think the police car came across there too fast and it just happened so fast."

A Channel 2 viewer sent a picture snapped on a cellphone minutes after the crash. Emergency crews took the driver of the BMW to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries.

Fulton County police say the crash is still under investigation.
