Police: BP Clerk Overcharged Customers, Pocketed Difference

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — A BP gas station employee is accused of stealing upwards of $6,000, Woodstock police said.

Babu Akhtar, 54, of Woodstock, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday. Akhtar is charged with one count of felony theft by taking.

Investigators said Akhtar overcharged customers for purchases and pocketed the difference while he was employed at the ampm BP Station in the 12000 block of Highway 92 in Woodstock.

Man Forgives BP Employee Accused Of Stealing Thousands

Police said the owner of the service station reported the theft to them on Dec. 16 after reviewing video surveillance cameras from inside the store.

The owner told police that the thefts likely occurred over a period of several months.

Akhtar was released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center after posting bond.
