Woman Killed In Head-On Crash With Teen

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —

A family is mourning the death of a local mother after she was killed in a crash that also injured several teenagers.

DeKalb County police said the crash happened Saturday when a car driven by a teen crossed the median and slammed head-on into 43-year-old Lisa Hutchinson’s car.

Hutchinson was killed on impact.

Gloria Thomas, Hutchinson’s mother, said her daughter and granddaughter were heading home on Rockbridge Road near Stewart Mill Road in Stone Mountain shortly after 11 p.m. when the accident occurred.

Thomas said she got a call from police.

“He said, ‘Your daughter and granddaughter have been in a serious accident and your daughter is dead and your granddaughter is injured,’” said Thomas.

According to the police report obtained by Channel 2 Action News, a teenage driver was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord with at least five other teenage passengers. They were westbound on Rockbridge Road when the driver lost control, crossed the double line, and hit Hutchinson’s Toyota Corolla head-on, according to the report. A second car hit Hutchinson’s car from the back and she died on impact.

Hutchinson’s daughter survived the accident. She suffered a broken collarbone and two fractures in her left hand.

One teenager from the other car is in critical condition and the driver and passengers suffered broken bones and minor injuries. The teens are said to be students at Stephenson High School and some played on the baseball team.

Police said charges are pending against the teen driver. Alcohol was not a factor, police said.

A funeral for Hutchinson is set for Saturday.
