Woman Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. —

A woman is in custody in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian on Thursday, said a spokeswoman for the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.

Shannon Raiel Barton, 33, of Conyers, was arrested Friday afternoon and taken to the Rockdale County Jail.

The hit-and-run happened shortly before 6:00 p.m. Thursday on Stanton Road near Goode Road.

Witnesses told investigators that a vehicle ran off the road and struck a man walking with a teenaged family member on the shoulder of the road, investigator said. The vehicle fled the scene without stopping and the other family member was not injured, authorities said. The victim was identified as Robert Michael Rojas, 41, of Conyers.

Barton is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, homicide by vehicle, and improper lane change.
