Wintry mix falls in north Georgia

ATLANTA —

Winter weather brought a wintry mix to north Georgia Tuesday morning, including reports of sleet as far south as Macon.

Temperatures held above freezing overnight in metro Atlanta as precipitation moved into the region,

A winter weather advisory was issued around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday for the north Georgia mountains until 10 a.m., but was canceled by 8:30 a.m. Most of the rain, snow and sleet mix fell in that area Tuesday morning, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton reported.

Channel 2 reporter Linda Stouffer reported snowfall in Blairsville in Union County around 2 a.m., with sleet coming down by 5 a.m., but no accumulation.

    There has been no reports of ice on the road, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

    Georgia Department of Transportation crews were ready to deal with dangerous driving conditions should they arise.


    The precipitation is expected to clear out by noon on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to warm into the 40s by Tuesday afternoon and back into the 60s by Wednesday.
