13-Vehicle Crash Jams I-20 Traffic

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —

A major accident involving at least 13 vehicles backed up traffic on Interstate 20 westbound during Thursday evening's rush hour.

News Chopper 2 flew over the scene on I-20 westbound between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel in DeKalb County shortly after 5 p.m.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told the Channel 2 Action News assignment desk that nine people were transported to area hospitals as a result of the accident. The injuries ranged from minor to moderate.

Parish said it appeared that a driver who slowed down because of the rain triggered the accident.

At least one car landed on top of another car when it became sandwiched between two vehicles.

All lanes were blocked for several hours after the crash. I-20 eastbound traffic was also slow through the area as people slowed to see the accident scene. Traffic on I-20 westbound was diverted onto Panola Road.
