Teens Arrested; Gun Found In School Restroom

Police have charged two teenagers after a gun was found in a Woodstock High School restroom, causing the lockdown of two schools Thursday morning.

The lockdown was later lifted on Woodstock High School and Woodstock Middle School. Police lifted the lockdown on the two schools after two hours.

Holly Springs police told Channel 2 Action News reporter Ross Cavitt that Forrest Busby, 17, of Canton, and a 15-year-old were arrested.

Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison showed off the guns they seized from Busby’s home Thursday afternoon. Police said they seized two assault rifles and 240 rounds of ammunition.

A rusty revolver was found in the ceiling of the Woodstock High School restroom. Police said it was not loaded.

Investigators told Cavitt the weapons came from the home of a 15-year-old who had run away from home Wednesday night. He apparently took the guns with him to Busby's house, police said.

Police said they haven’t found any plans or plots to use the guns and ammo. Investigators said they feel like they’ve broken up something horrific -- they’re just not sure what.

"Our information said they were going to school with them and at least a portion of that did. We could do hypotheticals all day...it could've been later in the day at a different time that those other weapons showed up," said Garrison.

Busby has been charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of a revolver by a person under 18, carrying a concealed weapon, theft by receiving stolen property, interference with child custody and disruption of a public school.

Police also said they found marijuana plants growing in Busby's bedroom closet and charged him with manufacturing and distributing a controlled substance.

The 15-year-old suspect has been charged with being party to the crime of possession of a weapon on school grounds, party to the crime of possession of a revolver while under 18, three counts of theft of a firearm, being a runaway, and disruption of a public school. He is in custody at the Paulding Youth Detention Center.

Baker said a third student, 17, who is believed to be involved, did not show up at school. Police said the third student was being interviewed but has not been charged.

Busby is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $20,000 bond. Police said Busby is cooperating but the 15-year-old is not.
