Strong storms with a lot of hail swept through the Atlanta metro area Thursday night, hitting Cobb County and parts of north Fulton County.

In Cobb County, three trees fell in one neighborhood, causing significant damage.

Channel 2's Tony Thomas went to a home on Converse court, where a 7-year-old narrowly escaped two trees that fell into a bedroom.

Jake Hills said his was laying on a bed when she heard a tree crack and ran out of the room in the nick of time.

"You've got to be really thankful. I'm really thankful. Just to have that happen, and her safe," Hills said.

Two blocks away, county workers tore apart a huge tree that fell across a roadway.

A house in north Fulton County briefly caught fire after it was struck by lightning.

No one currently lives in the home, but the couple who was supposed to move in this weekend had already moved in some baby items for their twins due in August.

Fire officials said the fire was out in less than five minutes, but the nursery was damaged in the process.

Channel 2 Action News viewers have sent in video of hail pounding their outdoor furniture as the storm quickly moved through.

Channel 2's Diana Davis said she saw the storm move in through Smyrna at about 8 p.m.

She said she could hear car alarms blaring after the storms swept through. Davis said she has never experienced a hail storm like this in the 29 years she's lived in the Atlanta area.

There were reports of lightning strikes across the north Fulton County area. Channel 2 viewers sent in many photos of hail that fell in the Roswell area.
