Store clerk accused of child molestation

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. —

Carrollton police officers arrested a store clerk they said molested a young boy in a convenience store after giving him free candy and soda.

Police said Rajnikant Patel worked at a Stop N Shop on Newnan Road in Carrollton.

The store manager, Shakeel Pabini, told Channel 2 Action News reporter Amanda Cook that surveillance video from the store showed Patel giving a boy free candy, chips and soda, and then touching him inappropriately on several occasions.

Pabini said Patel was very religious and always praying. He said the incident came as a great shock and was very upsetting.

“I feel ashamed this (was) happening in this location. (I have) no words to say,” said Pabini.

Patel is facing 11 different charges, including six counts of child molestation.

His first court appearance was scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday.
