Son Killed When Mom Crashes Fleeing Fender-Bender

ATLANTA —

Police say a woman fleeing a minor fender bender in southeast Atlanta wrecked her car, killing her own young son.

Police say the boy died about 9:45 Thursday night when his mother slammed into a tree near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Jonesboro Road. The woman's Honda Accord was split in half by the impact of the crash.

"She fled at a high rate of speed from the first accident," said Atlanta police officer J. Polite.

The woman, Ericka Young, is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Young faces several charges including vehicular homicide and DUI.
