Son Details Mother's Funeral In Letter Before Murder-Suicide

ROSWELL, Ga. —

Police said a son killed his elderly mother and then himself Saturday night, but it's what they said he did before the tragedy that has investigators baffled.

Police told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas the son sent a letter to a friend detailing at length about funeral plans, but never actually talked about the crime.

“She's just the dearest of friends and the epitome of a southern woman,” neighbor Nina Shields said.

Shields said she was one of the first to realize something was wrong.

“We came up to check on her just because she hadn't answered her phone,” Shields said.

Friends told Thomas they hadn’t been seen or heard from Wilma Webb, 86, since Friday.

Investigators found two bodies inside her home Saturday night.

Police said one body was Webb’s. The other was of her 50-year-old son, Kyle Webb.

Police believe he killed himself after fatally shooting his mother.

Thomas asked Roswell police if there were any indications of why Kyle Webb shot his mother. Lisa Holland with the Roswell Police Department said, “It almost appeared there might be money issues with the son.”

But it's what police believe the son did in the hours before the murder suicide that is most baffling.

Investigators said Kyle Webb mailed a detailed letter to a family friend

“It was a two page letter, typed with all the detailed information with what he'd like to be said at his mother’s funeral,” Holland said.

Officers said it outlined the family’s financial info to take care of, which funeral home to use and where the two should be buried.

“She certainly didn't deserve this. No one does,” neighbor Mackie Brown said.

“There's no word greater than tragedy and that's what it is,” Shields said.
