Reward Offered After 2 Dogs Tortured, Killed

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. —

Carroll County investigators said they continued Sunday to search for whoever tortured and killed two dogs. The bodies of both chocolate Labs were discovered not far from their Bremen home.

“Those dogs were very quickly becoming my best friends,” said owner John Robinson.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Diana Davis spoke with Robinson. He said chocolate labs Boss and Lexi were a Christmas gift to his fiancée. Though they had been part of his family for just over a month, Robinson said he is heartsick about their deaths.

Robinson said the dogs disappeared just down the road from his Bremen home when he was on a hunting trip. He posted fliers and offered a reward. A week later, a neighbor called and said he had found Boss and Lexi dead and dumped in the woods.

“He said, ‘You need to come home.’ He said, ‘It’s not good.’ He said they looked like they’d been tortured,” said Robinson.

The dogs were dumped along a back road. Both had been tortured and shot in the face. One had a rope around its neck.

Robinson said he believes both were tortured for days.

“Whenever they were finally killed, they were hungry. They’d been starved,” said Robinson.

Robinson said Boss and Lexi wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“They were very humble, very sweet dogs. The only thing you had to worry about was them licking you to death,” said Robinson.

Robinson put up a $500 reward. The Carroll County Humane Society matched it.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies said the Atlanta Humane Society put up another $5,000.

Sheriff’s deputies said they were shocked by the brutality of the attack.

“This is really the first time I’ve seen something of this nature that we’ve had to deal with in Carroll County,” said Shane Taylor of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office officials said they hope the $6,000 reward will be more incentive for someone to come forward with information.

If the dogs’ killer or killers are caught, Robinson said deputies told him those responsible will be charged with a felony and will face up to 20 years in prison.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
