Reality Show Walls Off Cobb Homes; Neighbors Upset

Some Kennesaw residents are up in arms over a reality show currently taping in their neighborhood.

Residents of the Legacy Park subdivision said crews have put up a huge wall to isolate eight homes for the show entitled "Block Party." The families are basically locked in the area connecting their homes as they compete for a $1 million prize.

But not everyone on the block is in a party mood. Homeowner Mike Altman gave a reality check to a crew member on what it’s like to have a supersized TV production move in next door. Just like the walls themselves, the show is dividing neighborhood residents.

“I’m very upset about it. It generates a lot of noise … it’s a safety and security hazard,” Altman said. We're being told what we can and can't do. It's almost like we are in a prison camp here."

Altman also complains about the constant traffic backups, crew workers going in and out, the cranes and other heavy equipment.

Altman and other homeowners also criticize the homeowner’s association for violating its own covenants by allowing the community to be turned into a giant Hollywood set.

"There's been people fined for having a little 1-foot statue of the Georgia Bulldog on their porch … and they let this happen," said Altman.

But many other residents are thrilled that their neighborhood will be in the national spotlight -- a block party they're happy to host.

"It's bringing some excitement to the neighborhood. And I like some reality shows, so it's fine with me," said resident Jennifer Lane.

"Since we know all the families involved, we want it to be successful for all of them," said resident Kara Seawright.

The president of the homeowner’s association told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Regan that the community board believes the benefits of national TV exposure outweighs the short-term negatives.

The production will wrap up in a couple of weeks and is scheduled to air this fall.
