SNELLVILLE, Ga. —
The robbers even fired a shot inside the bank, investigators said.
It happened at the Wachovia Bank in the 3500 block of Centerville Highway in Snellville.
Wigged Robbers Rough Up Pregnant Woman
“Just after 11:55 a.m., we had two males enter the bank in a takeover-style robbery,” said Lt. Dan Huggins with the Gwinnett Police Department.
The bank was filled with customers.
“Two people came in, … one started shooting. One grabbed money. They were in and out so fast,” said bank customer Robert Patton, who was in a wheelchair.
“There was a pregnant woman man-handled pretty badly. They took her to the hospital to check her out. No one got shot,” said Patton.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Ryan Young was at the scene as investigators gathered evidence and worked to recover a bullet from the ceiling.
Brian Lamkin, special agent in charge at the FBI Atlanta field office, said the bank robbers are believed to be responsible for a series of recent take-over style armed bank robberies where the robbers would often wear shoulder-length black wigs.
Police said the bank robbers took off in a silver Dodge Magnum. Investigators said the getaway vehicle was recovered nearby, but the robbers are still at large.
Patton said he just wanted go home to his wife and forget this day.
“I’m grateful to be alive. I’m kind of shook up,” said Patton.
