DUNWOODY, Ga. —

Dunwoody police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who backed into a woman at a busy mall.

It happened at Perimeter Mall in DeKalb County on the evening of Feb. 22, in front of the Macy's store.

"The vehicle stopped and began backing up," Sgt. Mike Carlson of the Dunwoody Police Department said.

"As the vehicle was backing up, it ended up striking the victim, knocking her down," Carlson said.

Police are not sure whether it was intentional, but what they do know is the driver took off.

The victim was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

Investigators released a photograph of the SUV captured on mall surveillance cameras.

The vehicle is either a GMC or Chevrolet, copper or dark beige in color, police said. Witnesses provided a partial, out-of-state tag number, but police said it has not provided any leads.

"The individual knew that he struck this person, this victim, and then fled the scene. So, we need to find out what happened, why this occurred," Carlson said.

Channel 2 Action News attempted to reach the victim, but a friend said she was on pain medication and not yet available to speak publicly about what happened.

Officers said she suffered a broken bone.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 678-382-6900, or submit an anonymous tip.
