KENNESAW, Ga. —
Investigators said A.M. Singleton stopped Irving Alicea, 40, of Marietta, at Cobb Parkway and Greers Chapel Road around 11:30 p.m., Cobb County police spokesman Dana Pierce said.
As he walked back to his patrol car after the traffic stop, he was struck by another driver in a BMW, Pierce said.

Alicea drove off, but officers stopped the car on the opposite side of the road, Pierce said.
Alicea was arrested after police said he was driving drunk, Pierce said. His car was impounded.
The officer was transported to Wellstar Hospital with injuries to his right leg, ankle and arm, Piece said.

Investigators said Officer Singleton had multiple broken bones.
Alicea has been charged with failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and run.
Alicea was held on $30,000 bond.
