A family on their way to drop off their child at day care Wednesday morning said a man pointed a gun at them as they were driving down the road.

Christy Lee told Channel 2's Erin Coleman she was terrified when the man pulled up next to her car on Tara Boulevard at Poston Road around 7:45 a.m. and started waving a gun at her.

Her 4-year-old, Nevaeh, was in the back seat.

"Devastated! My child is in the car," Lee said. "I have a 4-year-old in the back seat and I don't know what was going through his mind, if he wanted to shoot somebody."

Lee said she turned onto the next street, but met up with the same man at the next intersection.

Her husband, Marcus Bateman, who was also in the car, said he watched as the man cocked the gun.

"He pointed the gun at her. That's when I really lost it," Bateman said.

Clayton County Deputy Pamela Green just happened to be driving by on her way to work when two other drivers who witnessed what happened got her attention.

"Two vehicles actually stopped me, flagged me down while I was in my patrol vehicle," Green said.

The drivers got a tag number and a description of 59-year-old Hiram Perrin's car.

Sgt. Keith McLaughlin tracked him down with the help of dispatchers.

"They advised that there was an incident involving that vehicle at a business location so we went to that business location," McLaughlin said.

Deputies are calling the incident a case of road rage.

They also said they were able to catch up to Perrin so quickly because they were already in the area.

The incident started just a few hundred yards away from the Clayton County courthouse.

During the whole ordeal, Lee said her little girl didn't really know what was happening. She said she's thankful for that and thankful no one got hurt.

Perrin faces three counts of aggravated assault and one count of child cruelty.

Police said more charges are pending.
