Police: Man Confesses To Beating Parole Officer

ATLANTA —

Atlanta police said they obtained a confession from the man accused in the beating of a state parole officer.

Gregory Johnson, 30, was taken into custody late Wednesday evening in connection with the beating of George Walker, a hearing examiner for the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Investigators said someone found Walker severely beaten in a northeast Atlanta park on Saturday.

Johnson told police that he beat Walker and took his cell phone and cash, authorities said.

When paramedics took Walker to an area hospital, they initially listed him as a "John Doe" because he had no identification and couldn't talk.

Walker remained in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital on Thursday.

Police said the crime does not appear to be random. The two men had met prior to the assault, Johnson told police.

Johnson was charged with aggravated assault and robbery by force. He is being held in the Fulton County Jail.
