MCDONOUGH, Ga. —
Two Henry State Court employees are accused of making a drug deal in the courthouse parking lot in McDonough.
The court employees were arrested Friday after the Flint Circuit Drug Task Force conducted an undercover investigation. Maj. Chad Rosborough is the commander of the multi-jurisdictional task force that serves Henry County.
He said Lisa Anthony, 46, and Kimmie Elliot, 45, had been under surveillance for about a month after someone complained about the alleged activity in the court parking lot, located across the street from the McDonough Police Department.
"(We) searched the vehicle and found a half ounce of marijuana and ultimately got some confessions that they were buying and selling some drugs in the parking lot," Rosborough said.
Investigators said they believe the deals have been going on for about eight months.
Anthony, a court clerk, is accused of buying pot from co-worker Kimmie Elliot, who works in the Henry County Solicitor General's Office.
"Being that it was court employees kind of like police officers held to a higher standard," Rosborough said.
He said a McDonough K-9 unit found marijuana in Anthony's car after the alleged deal just after 11:30 a.m. Friday.
"I think they get lulled into that safety thinking that they know everybody, thinking that they're in a safe place, thinking that no one would think that would be going on there," Rosborough said. "You really wouldn't think that would be going on there."
Police believe this was an isolated case but are investigating to determine if others were involved.
