A toddler was found Tuesday afternoon, several hours after she disappeared from New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

LITHONIA, Ga. —

A 2-year-old missing after the van she was in was stolen from the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church fitness center has been found safe.

Police said Myrai Robinson’s caregiver went inside the fitness center for five to seven minutes around 9 a.m. and left the child behind. When she returned, the van and the child were gone.

DeKalb police confirmed at 1 p.m. that the child was found safe at Lithonia High School. Melba Williams said she was driving by when she spotted the van.

“I could see the baby and she was screaming, so I stopped and I got out and I said, ‘Momma's coming,’ and then I dialed 911,” Williams said.

The child’s mother said she was thankful news of her daughter’s disappearance spread so quickly.

“I’m feeling ecstatic. Thank you everybody,” she said.

The caregiver, 44-year-old Rhonda Rivers, is facing reckless conduct charges.
