Police Bust Auto Theft Ring

DULUTH —

Gwinnett County police said Wednesday that they have arrested six men in connection with an alleged automobile theft ring that has been linked to a series of carjackings.

Charles Martin, 17, Joseph Stevens, 17, Dalen Robinson, 17, Dwayne Lemons, 19, Lazarus White, 19, and Ashley Montgomery, 17, were being held at the Gwinnett County Jail. Police officials said the suspects are facing theft and weapons charges.

Police said they have recovered six stolen vehicles, including a 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo, 1997 Nissan Sentra, 1994 Pontiac Grand Am, 2000 Mercedes ML320, 1991 Toyota Tercel and a 1998 Nissan Maxima.

Two handguns were recovered during the investigation, which suggests that the suspects may have been involved in carjackings, robberies and burglaries throughout the metro area.

Police said they arrested the men after an officer found a stolen vehicle on Feb. 22 in the parking lot of the Fairfeld Inn in Norcross. The car was linked to a carjacking on Sugarloaf Parkway, where the first car was stolen. Police placed the motel parking lot under surveillance and made the arrests when three of the men returned to the scene.

Three others were arrested later.
