FULTON COUNTY, Ga. —
The pastor for the family of Usher’s stepson is remembering the 11-year-old who died over the weekend after a Waverunner accident earlier this month.
“It’s been grueling, but we’ve maintained an unrelenting base of faith,” Rev. Gregory Pollard of the Enon Church said.
Kile Glover was on an inner tube on Lake Lanier when he was struck by a Waverunner. The accident caused a head injury that left Kile on life support for two weeks.
Pollard said he is close friends with the family. He said it would not have been unusual for his family to be at the lake with the Glover family.
“This has been a trying time for me because Kile was close. He was full of life. He was a powerful young man,” Pollard said.
A family friend told Channel 2 that Kile died of heart failure, not because he was taken off life support.
“There was no decision made by the family to take him off life support, for him to make the transition,” Pollard said.
Kile’s mother, Tameka Foster, was married to Usher, an R&B singer, for two years. They have two children together.
The Department of Natural Resources identified the man on the personal watercraft as Jeffrey S. Hubbard of Atlanta, according to an incident report obtained by the AJC. The DNR has said that Hubbard and the children tubing were part of the same group on an outing at the lake.
The DNR has said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident, which happened in the mouth of Big Creek near Holiday Marina. Authorities have not filed charges against Hubbard.
Kile's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday.
