Over 150 Arrested In Metro Atlanta Crime Sweep

ATLANTA —

Police across metro Atlanta arrested 159 people, confiscated marijuana, loaded handguns and more as part of an ongoing crime crackdown.

The arrests and seizures took place Friday during the second phase of a crime sweep that started in May in the metro Atlanta area.

Channel 2 Action News reporter George Howell and photographer Casey Nichols tagged along with police as they patrolled neighborhoods in northwest Atlanta near Bankhead Highway.

The entire effort, however, covered high crime areas not only in the city of Atlanta, but as far south as Henry County and north as Sandy Springs.

While several high-profile crimes have made headlines lately, police said Friday’s regional enforcement initiative has been in place long before and will continue in the future.

Multiple law enforcement agencies participated in Friday’s regional enforcement detail, including the Georgia State Patrol, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
