Atlanta will wrap up March with more than 9 inches of rain, which is nearly 4 inches above the monthly average. March is statistically our wettest month, so a wet winter water recharge period is great news in areas that were battling a drought.

Since the start of 2011, Atlanta now has a 1-inch rainfall surplus.

At the beginning of the month, metro Atlanta was in a moderate (level 1) drought on the U.S. drought monitor scale. Most of North Georgia was abnormally dry.
