GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —
Parts of metro Atlanta were ravaged by storm systems throughout the area on Tuesday.
Conyers resident Matthew Mitchell, 54, died when a tree fell on his car around 3 p.m., police said.
Gwinnett County Cpl. Edwin Ritter said Mitchell was driving southeast on South Rockbridge Road, in between North Deshong Road and Marshall Lane, as heavy winds rolled in. Ritter said a tree on the right side of the road broke in half and fell onto Mitchell’s Toyota Previa.
Mitchell died on the scene from his injuries, Ritter said.
Mitchell is survived by his wife and children.
“He was the father of four and his family misses him,” said his brother, Thomas Mitchell.
