Man Believed To Be Married To Eight Women

ATLANTA —

Gwinnett County Police have arrested a man they believe may have been married to eight different women.

Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department received information from the Gwinnett County Probate of a possible bigamist. Officials say they found eight different marriage certificates for different women and the man – identified as 34-year-old William James Fairley of College Park.

Fourteen arrest warrants in total were taken out against Fairley – 7 warrants for felony bigamy and 7 for felony false swearing.

Officials are trying to find out of the victims knew Fairley was still married to the others. Agents from U.S. Customs and Immigration are determining whether the victims used the marriage to apply for citizenship and benefits.

Police say at this time they do not believe money was the motive.

Police say Fairley voluntarily turned himself in Thursday and he is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center on $39,900 bond.

The investigation is continuing.
