DEKALB COUNTY —
After the 2 bulldogs bit a young boy, a judge gave the owner the option of neutering them or putting them to sleep. The dogs were in quarantine at an animal clinic where the owner came supposedly to say goodbye, but instead grabbed them and ran.
Two English Bulldogs quarantined at the Animal Doctors Clinic in DeKalb County because they attacked a 6-year-old boy.
The 6-year-old ok, but the court ordered the owner, George Reynolds, to neuter or euthanize his pets.
Clinic owner, Tigist Lulesegd says, “He does not want to uh neuter them. He does not have money.”
Veterinary Technician Rick Sado says, “They wanted to see the pets for the last time.”
While the animal clinic employees were distracted by other customers, the owner of the bulldogs, with the help of a friend, took them out the front door.
“It was just a split second. They ran right out of the door with the dogs on their leashes,” Sado says.
Lulesegd says, “I tried to get his attention by calling him, ‘sir, sir, I'm gonna call the police.’ He just backed up and kept going.”
Surveillance cameras captured the escape, but DeKalb Police say they won’t release the video because it’s part of an ongoing investigation. The bulldog owners gave the clinic an address where someone else now has an in-home daycare center.
Daycare owner Olene Mitchell says, “I don't know the people that lived here before me. The owners did say they had dogs.”
Police say they haven’t found the dogs or their owner.
Lulesegd says, “Poor dogs you know, I feel sorry for them, you know they were miserable.”
The vet tech says the female is pregnant and that may have been a part of the owner’s motivation.
“I think they pretty much just thought about the money. How much they could sell these puppies for,” Sado says.
Police have not yet filed any formal charges against the dog’s owner, but there is a possibility of “contempt of court” and “theft by taking” charges.
