A Cobb County man is accused of “hog-tieing” his girlfriend’s sons and taping them to chairs, according to police.
Sean Patrick Sterling, 35, of a Powder Springs address, spent a few hours in jail following his arrest Friday night, jail records show. He was charged with two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree and two counts of false imprisonment, all felonies, was released from the Cobb County jail after posting $75,000 bond, records show.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Sterling allegedly tied the arms and feet together of two boys, ages 8 and 14, and forced them face down on the floor for an extended period of time as a form of punishment, according to his arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Said accused did also bind the child to a chair with duct tape,” the warrant states. “Said accused did also lock the 8-year-old child into a bedroom on the second story of the house for an extended period of time to the point that the child urinated on the floor on several occasions.”
The alleged abuse happened between Dec. 25 and March 7, according to Cobb County police. Investigators said the boys were both victims of past physical abuse that had gone untreated, the warrant states.
The children’s mother was also arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree for allegedly allowing the abuse to occur and not seeking help for the boys, according to her arrest warrant. The AJC is not identifying the mother in order to not identify the juvenile victims. She remained in jail Thursday and was being held on $25,000 bond.
The boys have been placed in protective custody, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb County police. The investigation into the alleged abuse continues, he said.
