ATLANTA —

Emergency crews are investigating a fiery wreck along Interstate 85 that has left two people dead.

It happened along the northbound ramp of I-85 and Interstate 285 in south Fulton County just after 3 p.m.

Channel 2 Action News has obtained dashcam video from truck driver Arnold Gray that shows a silver pickup truck going the wrong way along I-85. Moments later that truck would hit another pickup, bursting into flames.

“There was fire and smoke and people running, trying to get the fire extinguishers out of their trucks and cars, trying to help everyone they could,” Gray said.

Investigators said the driver of the silver pickup died on impact.
“I estimate about 80 mph. He was flying. The impact was so intense, it sounded almost like a bomb,” witness Richard Ramey said.

Several good Samaritans stopped to help the two passengers out of the pickup truck that was hit. Both were rushed to the hospital, but the passenger, Christopher O'Day from New York, died. The driver is in serious condition.

Police are still investigating why the driver was heading the wrong way down the interstate. Investigators said they believe the driver was going the wrong way for 2 miles before the collision.

Investigators said they are examining 911 calls to try to determine exactly where the wrong-way driver got on the interstate.
