An Atlanta woman says she is terrified after being targeted by a peeping Tom for more than a year.
Jennifer VanSickle told Channel 2’s Amy Napier-Viteri that she has called police several times about the man she said repeatedly walks by and looks into her condo, but he has not been arrested since he is not technically trespassing.
The woman’s condo windows do not overlook a private yard, but a city street.
VanSickle said she set up a camera in the window of her Nelson Street condo after she noticed a man repeatedly walking by and looking into her home.
“He only shows up after dark. He would just walk by for hours, just looking into the window,” VanSickle said.
In July 2011, police said they removed the man from her street after she showed them a recording of him walking by and looking inside repeatedly.
VanSickle said police identified the man as Bruce Mitchell and she took out a protective order against him in Fulton County Superior Court. She eventually dismissed the order after she said no one could find Mitchell in order to serve him with it.
In December, Mitchell was arrested for shoplifting. Records show he was arrested in 2009 on charges of stalking and child molestation.
Wednesday night, VanSickle said Mitchell was back outside her window.
“It’s horrible. It makes me kind of afraid to leave the house,” VanSickle said.
VanSickle said she put adhesive covers on the bottom part of her windows, but said there is little else she can do.
“I was told by the officers who removed him by the neighborhood if I had a yard, it would be different, but there’s nothing I can do about it,” VanSickle said.
Police said any time someone doesn’t feel safe or sees something suspicious, they should call 911.
