Several cars were involved in a crash on Interstate 20 Tuesday morning after a tree fell onto the westbound lanes.
Rain was falling when the tree fell onto I-20 at Sigman Road around 6:20 a.m.
According to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, the tree landed on a 1998 Toyota Tacoma, killing the 60-year-old driver. The man has not been identified pending next of kin notification.
The Sheriff's Office said several other cars were involved in crashes as they tried to avoid the truck and the tree.
Witnesses told Channel 2’s Triple Team Traffic as many as seven cars crashed. All lanes were closed for more than two hours and traffic was diverted.
Further west on I-20, a DeKalb County police officer was injured in a crash in the westbound lanes east of Candler Road, DOT said. All lanes were closed there from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., but have since reopened.
