Robbers target 2 Georgia Tech students in separate attacks

ATLANTA —

Robbers targeted two Georgia Tech students in separate attacks that happened within hours of each other, police said.

The first incident happened on Ferst Drive near the Georgia Tech Student Center late Friday night. A student told police she was walking toward the library when she returned to her vehicle and found a man sitting in the rear seat. The man hit the student in the head, pulled on a lanyard hanging from her neck and then asked for her purse, according to police. The student sprayed the man with pepper spray and he ran off with some items from the car, the report said.

A second robbery attempt happened after 6 a.m. on Saturday between Ferst Drive and McMillan Street. A student told police a man approached him from behind, grabbed his shoulder and tried to take his back page. The student fought off the attacker and ran to his residence hall.

Neither student was injured in the attacks. The victims were not able to give police a description of either robber, and authorities did not say if they believe the attacks are related.

The attack comes less than a week after a Georgia Tech student was pushed to the ground and robbed at gunpoint near 10th Street.

Students with information about either attack are asked to call Georgia Tech Police at 404-894-2500.
