Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking severe weather moving across metro Atlanta on Friday.
Showers quickly developed into severe storms, prompting tornado watches and warnings throughout the morning. By noon, all tornado warnings had expired, but a tornado watch, affecting many of the area’s counties south and east of Interstate 85 is set to expire at 4 p.m.
The watch did not affect the city of Atlanta or the northern metro counties, but some cities were still hit with storms.
“Some of these storms have been moving today between about 40 and 70 mph at times,” Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
A tornado touched down in parts of upper north Georgia on Wednesday night, but Minton said that area would be in the clear Friday.
“It runs really from Gainesville to Carrollton and southward today,” Minton said.
