Rapist attacks mentally ill 59-year-old

MARIETTA, Ga. —

A Marietta family is pleading for help tracking down the rapist who attacked a 59-year-old woman.

Family members said the victim was kidnapped at knifepoint, tied up and attacked for five hours Monday. Relatives are convinced someone saw the beginning of the attack.

The victim’s daughter, who asked not to be named, said a man grabbed her mother at knifepoint and forced her into a vacant apartment at the Somerpointe complex on Austell Road.

“[He] duct-taped my mother and did horrible things to my mother. My mother is mentally ill, and I think he took advantage of that opportunity,” the daughter told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt.

The attack, she said, lasted four to five hours before he mother could escape. During that time, the attacker claimed he'd done it before and told the victim several times she would not survive.

“He debated about whether he would throw her in the trash, talked about slitting her throat,” the woman said.

Her mother was hospitalized after the ordeal. Police said they have leads and are trying to track down the attacker.

“Think about if it was your mother or your family member, you know please say something if you know anything,” the woman said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cobb County Police Department Crimes Against Persons unit at 770-499-3900.
