ATLANTA —

Monday brought showers to metro Atlanta, and they are expected to continue until the end of the week.

“Showers off and on through the week until Thursday, finally clearing out and cooling down by Friday,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

The hardest hit areas were in the northwestern part of the state, with some areas receiving up to two inches of rain by Monday afternoon. About a quarter of an inch of rain hit the southern metro suburbs.

Upper north Georgia and parts of metro Atlanta are under a flood watch, which is set to last through Wednesday morning. The watch is for potential minor flooding of creeks and roads along the Interstate 85 corridor.

Temperatures in Atlanta peaked in the upper 60s Monday, but there was a wide range of temperatures throughout the region.

“The other big story has been the temperatures across the region,” Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said. “Where we’ve had the rain, we’ve kept it in the 40s and 50s. Down on the south side, no rain, breaks in the clouds, they’ve had temperatures in the 70s.”

He said another wave of rain will move in Thursday morning, hitting hardest in the northwest parts again.

Skies are expected to clear Friday, with temperatures dropping from the 60s to the low 50s throughout the week.
