Rain ahead, but scorching days will continue

COBB COUNTY, Ga. —

Record-breaking temperatures are not expected this weekend, but scorching days will continue.

Channel 2's Carl Willis spoke to residents in Cobb County about how they are keeping cool.

"This is an all-time new heat that we're experiencing, so you know, last week was a scorcher. This week is a scorcher," Juanita Crowder said.

Metro Atlanta broke records on three different days in the last week. The highest temperature fell on June 30, when the 106-degree heat broke a 76-year-old record. Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz forecasted pop-up storms this weekend. While the temperature may not reach the 100s, there are still concerns with the cumulative effects of many days of record temperatures. One concern is the higher chance of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, safety officials told Willis.

"It's still hot, even though the temperature has gone down some," Crowder said. "We're still at 90-something degrees."

Nitz expects daytime temperatures in the mid 90s Saturday and Sunday before increasing cloudiness and a higher chance of storms start the work week and provide a break from 100-plus temperatures.
