Powerball jackpot jumps to $325 million

ATLANTA —

The largest Powerball jackpot since the game arrived in Georgia is getting bigger. Lottery officials announced Friday afternoon that the jackpot for Saturday’s drawing has been raised from $310 million to $325 million.

The drawing can be watched exclusively on WSB-TV/Channel 2 at 11 p.m. Saturday, right before the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat.

Choosing the cash option on a $2 ticket could win someone $203 million before taxes, the highest amount in Powerball history.

The largest lottery drawing in U.S. history was $390 million, a prize split by winners in Georgia and New Jersey.

Powerball tickets first went on sale in Georgia in 2010. The game was revised in January with an increased ticket cost and increased jackpots.

The jackpot has not been won in 13 straight drawings, dating back to Dec. 28.
