LITHONIA, Ga. —

A car crashed through the wall of an apartment in DeKalb County on Wednesday morning and into a child’s bedroom.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. at the Cambridge Apartments in Lithonia. The child who sleeps in the bedroom was not there when the incident happened. Channel 2's Ryan Young spoke to his mother, who was still shakened up by the thought of her son being there.

"The car would have ran over the mattress and hit my baby," Rickina Morris said. "All I know is I was sleep and I heard glass shattering, and I jumped up and grabbed my taser because I thought somebody was breaking in."

But it turned out to be a black Impala crashing into her unit.

Police said the driver of the car was returning home from celebrating her birthday. She told officers her brakes failed, but after a field sobriety tests, she was arrested on drunken driving charges.

It’s unclear if the apartment will be closed off due to the damage, but Morris is looking for somewhere else to stay for the night.
