ATLANTA —

Atlanta police have arrested a man accused of cutting a police officer’s throat with a knife.

Channel 2’s Ryan Young spoke with witnesses on Jonesboro Road in southeast Atlanta who said they saw the man, who appeared to be homeless, with a large knife.

Young said the man got into a physical fight with a police officer, and the officer’s neck was cut. He said the man then ran into the nearby wooded area.

Atlanta officers were joined by search dogs, a police helicopter and DeKalb County police in the hours-long search.

The officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
