Cops seize $300k in meth after wild chase

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —

Channel 2 Action News is following breaking news in Gwinnett County where a police chase ended with a crash, and the recovery of $300,000 worth of methamphetamine.

Georgia State Patrol said they attempted to pull over the driver of a Jeep Cherokee on the southbound lanes on Interstate 85 near Beaver Ruin Road Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the suspect never stopped on Interstate 85. When he saw the state patrol lights, he took off. The man exited 85 southbound onto Beaver Ruin Road when he collided with another driver.

Authorities told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh the driver has been identified as Joel Martinez , 32, of Michoacan, Mexico.

Images from News Chopper 2 show when the cars crashed they landed in the parking lot of an Enterprise car rental shop. The getaway car was on top of some of the rentals.

Martinez is being charged with drug trafficking after troopers found 15 pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle.  

He will be taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
