Police: Man found dead in car is missing UGA student

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —

Gwinnett County police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that a body found inside a wrecked car Monday night was that of a missing University of Georgia student.

Quinton Ayers was reported missing on Saturday. He was last seen leaving a friend’s house in Athens around 1 a.m.

Monday night, Ayers' vehicle was found off Highway 316 near Harbins Road, and his body was inside. A truck driver spotted the truck crashed against a tree.

Police are still investigating the cause of the wreck and exactly how Ayers died.

Police said there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Since news of Ayers’ death broke, family and friends have posted condolences on the student’s Facebook page and shared fond memories.
