Atlanta police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting on N. Highland Avenue.

Police said an officer was trying to arrest a man for breaking into a car in Inman Park Wednesday night when the two got into a scuffle.

“During that altercation, shots were fired and the subject was shot and killed on the scene,” Lt. Paul Guerrucci said.

Detectives said the circumstances are not quite clear, but they are looking into whether the suspect tried to grab the officer’s gun.

The officer was injured during the altercation and later treated by medics.

Police are now working to identify the man who was killed. The officer involved has been placed on routine paid leave until the investigation is complete.
