DeKalb police are investigating a report that a teen was raped as she walked home from her school bus stop.
The 14-year-old McNair High School student told investigators she had just been dropped off in her neighborhood on Aug. 17 when a man approached her, dragged her to a nearby abandoned home and raped her.
The girl told police she did not know the man and he was armed with a knife.
A McNair High School parent told Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri she is now thinking twice about her daughter’s safety.
“I’d be scared for her to catch the school bus for right now,” the mother said.
Police learned of the alleged attack Sunday after the teen went to the hospital. DeKalb police are looking into the incident, since it happened off school property.
A school spokeswoman said she was not initially aware of the incident, but that she will work to get more information.
Parents said the school needs to notify parents whenever there is a possible threat to students.
DeKalb investigators said they are meeting with the victim and her mother to obtain more information.
