CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. —
Four people are accused of stealing a school bus and taking it on a joyride across Carroll County.
Lloyd Howell’s yard became a casualty in the crime spree when the bus ended up at his house. The yard is still marked with tire tracks and broken glass.
“I told my wife we got a school bus in the yard,” the 72-year-old said.
Carroll County investigators said Christopher Burnett, James Burnett, Earnest Harrison and a 16 year-old stole the bus late Saturday night from a parking lot at Bowdon High School.

“First time I know of a school bus being stolen since I’ve been here,” Carroll County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Richards said.
Deputies said the four men drove the stolen school bus through a nearby neighborhood, onto Lloyd’s front yard, broke out windows and abandoned it.
“I thought I heard thunder, but the thunder was them with the fire extinguisher busting out the windows,” Howell said.
Investigators said the crime spree started earlier in the day at a Walmart in Carrollton. The four are also charged with stealing beer and breaking out a window at the Bowdon Library. Investigators believe they had been drinking.
“The little bit of enjoyment that you’re going to get out of that is not worth the felony,” Richards said.
