Police arrested megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar Jr. on simple battery charges in Fayette County on Friday.
Channel 2’s Tom Jones learned that Dollar was booked into the county jail at 2 a.m. A judge set Dollar's bond at $5,000 during a morning hearing.
Deputies arrested Dollar at his home after receiving a 911 call from Dollar's 15-year-old daughter. She said her father attacked her after an argument about the girl attending a party.
A witness told authorities that Dollar grabbed the girl around her throat and choked her causing a scratch on her neck, according to Fayette County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Brent Rowan. Deputies said Dollar’s 19-year-old daughter corroborated the story.
Dollar’s wife, Taffy, and his son didn’t have anything to say outside the jail, but the pastor defended himself.
“Discipline my kid. Love ‘em,” Dollar said as he was leaving jail Friday morning.
Dollar's bond conditions prohibit him from getting into an altercation with his daughter, Jones reported.
He told Jones he had no comment for his congregation, but a 20-year minister at the church said he disagrees with the arrest.
“It’s unfortunate that our government will choose to not allow parents to chastise their own children,” Minister Rick Hayes told Jones.
Dollar is the founder and senior pastor of World Changers Church in College Park. The church has nearly 30,000 members and includes satellite campuses in 10 cities. Dollar’s weekly services are broadcast across the country.
