Some frustrated Peoplestown residents got specific promises from the mayor after a mixture of stormwater and sewage flooded their yards after a hard rain.

They shared home video of the recent storms that backed up the sewers in the community off Atlanta Avenue. Residents said the city of Atlanta promised a fix to those southeast Atlanta residents dealing with flooding issues.

On Saturday, Mayor Kasim Reed met with affected residents to discuss the steps the city is taking to address the problem.

"Fixes involve cleaning the system fully, running cameras through the system to determine if it's operating effectively and efficiently right now," Reed said.

But residents said they've been neglected and the problem should have been addressed long ago.

Tom Gladden said because of the delay, his kids are confined to playing on the porch.

Gladden told Channel 2's Carl Willis he hopes Reed's solution will work. If it doesn't, Reed said he would explore the possibility of a more expensive solution, involving a retaining pond of some kind.
