Atlanta police said three gunmen attacked five people sitting on a porch at a Cabbagetown home and kidnapped one of the victims.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday at a house on Estoria Street.
Police said five residents of the home were sitting on their front porch when three gunmen walked up and forced them inside. There, police said, the bandits robbed them. Then they took one of the residents at gunpoint, forced him into their car and drove to a nearby ATM where they forced him to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money.
Police said the victim was eventually released and found a ride with a passer-by who brought him home. Channel 2 cameras were there as the victim returned home.
Detectives now want to find out if the incident is linked to a series of violent crimes that have occurred in the area over the last few months. Nearby, in the Reynoldstown neighborhoods, police said a group of men carjacked a resident of the Milltown Lofts on Wylie Street one month after attempting to carjack another resident.
A police department source said they think that crime is linked a series of other violent crimes in southeast Atlanta. Police have made some arrests but are still searching for other suspects.
