ATLANTA —
Police have one man in custody and are looking for another involved in robbing two women in the Virginia Highland neighborhood at gunpoint.
Police said Roy Latimore, who also goes by the name Dewon Pitts, was arrested for another armed robbery in northeast Atlanta on Tuesday. Investigators compared his mug shot to a composite sketch developed based on descriptions provided by the female victims in a North Highland Avenue attack. Surveillance video from a Citgo gas station on Boulevard showed men in a gold minivan using the women's stolen credit cards to buy gas.
"Both victims picked out him as the person who had the gun and was involved in the robbery," Atlanta police investigator Darrin Smith told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri.
Police believe the second man in the minivan is also involved in the robberies and are hopeful that someone will recognize him from the video. People walking in the Virginia Highland neighborhood told Napier Viteri they are alarmed an armed robbery happened so close to where they live.
"We're about to walk back to our car right now. It's a little scary to think people are out there," said Alex Morgan. “Boulevard is not that far away from here. I would think that hopefully people definitely recognize him. Keep their area safe. Keep our area safe."
Police are investigating whether these two men are connected to more armed robberies in the area. They are asking anyone with information to call Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
